Role and Responsibilities:

The school liaisons officer serves as a conduit between parents, educators and the command so that military-connected children experience a seamless transition during the transfer between schools. They are the subject matter experts for K-2 education issues working to connect commanders, educators, and parents. The School Liaison Officer provides information and resources for military families on internal organizations including, but not limited to, Fleet and Family Support Programs (FFSP), Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), Child and Youth Program (CYP) activities as well as some external organizations.

California Department of Education offers access to a wide variety of information, including the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Common Core State Standards, UC/CSU Entrance Requirements, Specialized Programs and much more.

Navy Exceptional Family Program

The Navy's Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) serves Navy families with special needs. Qualifying special needs include, but is not limited to; early intervention services, Individual Education Program (IEP), referrals to speech/occupational therapy, clinical counseling, required adaptive equipment assistive technology devices and services and/or wheelchair accessibility. Military Interstate Compact

California participates in the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunities for Military Children (ICEOOMC). The purpose of the ICEOMC is to remove barriers to educational success imposed on children of military families due to the frequent moves and deployment of their parents. The compact addresses key educational transition issues encountered by military families, including enrollment, placement, attendance, eligibility, and graduation.
