CAASPP

What is the CAASPP?

The primary purpose of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) System is to assist teachers, administrators, students, and parents by promoting high-quality teaching and learning through the use of a variety of assessment approaches and item types. The CAASPP includes the Smarter Balanced assessment system for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics, the California Science Test (CAST), the California Alternate Assessments (CAAs) for ELA, mathematics, and science, and the optional California Spanish Assessment (CSA). - CAASPP Website

In their 11th Grade year, all students will take the following tests:

SBAC ELA, SBAC MATH, and the California Science Test (CAST) unless a student's IEP designates the California Alternate Assessments (CAA).

These assessments help identify and address gaps in knowledge of skills so students may get the support they need for college and career readiness.

CAASPP Testing Dates. ELA will be April 10th, Math will be April 22 and Science (CAST) will be May 20

Why is the SBAC/CAST Important?

College Placement - some colleges and universities use SBAC ELA and Math scores as evidence that students are ready for entry-level college courses; higher scores show that students are ready to enroll in classes for credit.

College and Career Readiness - students SBAC scores are used as one of the indicators to determine if students are "Prepared" for college and careers. This information is reported to the California School Dashboard
