Graduation 2020

Countdown to Graduation

Graduation is a very important milestone that marks the end of 13 years of education. Here at Channel Islands High School, we recognize the remarkable achievements of our students and make a mission of giving this achievement the greatest fanfare that we can muster. The unique challenges presented to this graduating class have not caused us to waver in that mission. The Raider family, instead, pushes forth with creativity, hope, diligence, and most importantly love.

To the Graduating Class of 2020, congratulations on the hard work and perseverance that have brought you here. We will celebrate you in as many ways as we can.

Each member of the Senior class will receive a lawn sign declaring them a graduate of Channel Islands High School. Students may place them out on the lawn, in a window, to decorate their car.

These lawn signs were distributed in Early May but anyone who has not picked one up and wishes to do so may come to campus during working hours on Wednesdays and request one from the front office staff.

The 2020 Channel Islands Graduation will, in part, constitute a video montage of Senior pictures with information about student accomplishments (see To-Do list below); speeches by our valedictorians, student leaders, and Mr. Adams; and video of the presentation of colors and the alma mater.  This video will be released to be viewed by our Raider family on Graduation Day, June 16th.

To further complete the graduation experience, on June 3rd-5th, we will be inviting graduates and their families to a photo session on the actual, fully-decorated graduation stage set up in the gym. Students will have their name read by counselors, walk the stage in their cap and gown, and receive their diploma. Parents can hand their student their diploma on stage, and students can decorate their caps. Professional photos will be taken of graduates on the stage, and each student will receive, with their diploma on the 16th, a free 8×10 copy of their picture on the stage. Further professional picture packages can be bought on site.

Make sure you have ordered your gown and clear your schedule for June 3-5. Times will be announced as we approach the dates. To ensure safe practices of social distancing, each graduate may bring up to 4 people to accompany them to the stage.

The culmination of a student’s high school career is the receipt of a diploma, qualifying them for the topmost opportunities of adult life.

Diplomas will be distributed on Graduation day June 16 at the start of the Graduation Parade. Appointment times will be sent out prior. Students’ diplomas will be held until all debt is cleared.

On June 16th from 2-4 PM, we will hold a parade of our graduates. Students can arrive in their gowns, decorate their cars, and wave majestically to all onlookers as they drive a pre-determined path around the campus and local neighborhood.

Students will arrive by car coming in on Dallas Dr coming eastbound off of Channel Islands BLVD.  Entering the campus, staff will be lined up along the fence to cheer and their diploma will be available as the students drive down to the front office. From here, students will drive a pre-determined route and be cheered by the families along the parade route.

1 Graduate per car, with ID. Parking will be available until there isn’t parking anymore.

Further details will be revealed while we work with the City of Oxnard to devise the best implementation concerning public health.

Senior To-Do List

All seniors need to fill out the following form if they want to have specific information about their activities and future plans included in the Virtual Graduation montage. Form

Students will receive an appointment time by email.

During their appointed time, Seniors will return their books, clean out their locker, pay their debts, return or buy their Chromebook.

Failing to do a checkout will lead to a hold on the diploma.

In order to make sure you get your cap and gown in time for graduation, orders must be made before May 8.

Cap, Gown, Customized Stole, Tassel – $50

Place orders using the following link:  https://bit.ly/RaiderGradGear

Jostens has arranged a wonderful program that allows graduates to borrow graduation cap, gown, stole and tassel instead of purchasing one!

To borrow a graduation cap & gown: Call 1-800-567-8367 and speak to a representative to make the arrangements (Spanish speaking employees are available by phone).
Or email: jeff.zavala@jostens.com
Please tell them graduate’s name, school name, Student ID, height and weight for the correct size gown.

In order to receive your cap and gown in time for graduation, you must order them by May 8th.

Please Note: Students who are borrowing a cap/gown/stole/tassel MAY NOT DECORATE THEIR CAPS. The decorations will damage the cap. Caps are not sold separately. If students want to decorate your cap they MUST purchase your graduation gear.

If a family has already purchased graduation gear and wants to return them – students must bring all four items to CIHS the day after graduation to pick up their diploma. They must turn in all four items, clean and undamaged. A voucher will be given to them and a reimbursement check will be mailed over the summer.

Have you checked if you owe textbooks?
Even ones from ninth grade. You won't receive a diploma if you have outstanding books. Students will be updated soon about when they will return books from their current classes and they will be notified soon if they owe other textbooks.
Have you spoken to your teachers?
The last day of Distance Learning classes is June 5th. If you are not on track to pass a class, make sure that you have communicated with your teacher about what you could possibly do.
