Channel Islands High School has been designated as a 2025 California Green Ribbon School

Recognition Description:
The recognition award is part of a larger U.S. Department of Education (ED) effort to identify and communicate practices that result in improved student engagement, academic achievement, graduation rates, and workforce preparedness; and reinforces federal efforts to increase energy independence and economic security.
This recognition is based on our demonstrated progress towards reaching the goals of each of the three ED-GRS Pillars, which are:
- Pillar I: Reduce environmental impact and costs
- Pillar II: Improve the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff
- Pillar III: Provide effective environmental education, which teaches many disciplines, and is especially good at effectively incorporating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), civic skills, and green career pathways

2025 Purple Star Designation

The California Purple Star School Designation Program (Purple Star Program) seeks to reduce the burden on military-connected students and their families by articulating the most critical transition supports for military-connected students and their families by publicly designating schools that meet certain requirements. The program signals which schools are the most committed and best equipped to meet their unique needs.
The Purple Star Program was designed to help mitigate the challenges of high mobility by setting standards for and publicly designating military-friendly schools. The Purple Star Program’s true value derives from its potential to:
- Centralize and make knowledge accessible,
- Develop stakeholder networks, and
- Support schools in cultivating and communicating cultural competency in supporting military-connected families.

2022 Pivotal Practice Award
April 2022 - Channel Islands High School was named a 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award program winner by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond. The 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award Program, or CAPP, temporarily replaced the California Distinguished Schools Program. Three schools were honored in Ventura County, Channel Islands High School proudly stands as the only high school with this honor.
This honor recognizes and celebrates Channel Islands High School as a school that implemented innovative practices during the 2020–21 school year. It represents the hard work that our teachers, counselors, paraeducators, administrators, and classified teams have done to create innovative systems of support for our Raiders.
Channel Island High School came together, developed solutions and worked collaboratively to ensure students were holistically supported and learning during the pandemic. Such a distinctive honor and one that is well deserved.
Congratulations Raiders!
