Voter Registration

Last Friday 4/26 the League of Women Voters and the CIHS History Social-Science Dept held our second voter registration event of the year in the library. Upon the conclusion of Friday, we have 42% of the senior class that registered that day, 42% had previously registered to vote, and 15% were ineligible to register. 84% of the class of 2019 is registered to vote. A special thank you to Teacher-Librarian Kim Tahsuda, College & Career Center Tech Will Martin, and to the HSS teachers Mr. Bowman, Mr. Cole, Mr. Colvin, & Mr. Ramos.

Swim season ended last Thursday with League Finals at Buena High School. Admittedly, it wasn’t the meet we wanted, but such is sports. And as I told our team, one meet isn’t an entire season. We had an AMAZING season! I’m crazy proud at how hard the kids worked!

Highlights from prelims and finals (top 12 score):

Individual JV scorers at league

• Brenda Estrada, 12th in the 200 free and 11th in the 100 free.

• Marilynn Vega, 9th in the 50 free

• Jessica Cervantes, 10th in the 50 free

• Samantha Moran, 8th in the 100 free

• Damian Arana, 12th in the 50 breast

Individual Varsity scorers at league

• Leslie Cortes, 9th in the 200 free and 8th in the 500 free

• Ivan Romero, 6th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 fly.

• Jessica Carballo, 10th in the 50 free and 12th in the 100 back. During prelims, Jessica lowered her own school record in the 100 back by a second to a 1:15.12.

• Brianna Vasquez, 11th in the 500 free

• Adrian Garcia, 11th in the 500 free

• David Rodela, 12th in the 100 back

The varsity girls 4×100 relay of Leslie Cortes, Ceci Lopez, Brianna Vasquez, and Jessica Carballo knocked two seconds off our school record that was set last year by Leslie Cortes, Jessica Carballo, Alejandra Orozco, and Cristina Bunny Rodriguez. Earlier in the season, Ivan Romero made consideration for CIF in his 200 IM, but, unfortunately, did not make the final cutoff. He still leaves his mark on our record board with FIVE school records! Thank you to everyone who supported us this season, it means so much to the kids and to us, the coaches. Can’t wait until next year to do it all again!
