CIHS Weekly Update 3.15.19

Students cleaned the trash

On Wednesday March 13, 2019, CIHS BFA Sophomores and Seniors, and pre-Academy Freshmen were treated to an informative presentation on budgeting and financial management provided by Ms. Gabriella Munoz.  Ms. Munoz is the BFA Advisory
Board Secretary and a representative of the Ventura County Community Development Corporation. Her presentation spanned the subjects of wants vs. needs, student loans, and how to balance one’s budget by forgoing some immediate wants, in order to save for some longer term wants and needs. Ms. Munoz’ enlightening presentation tied in perfectly with the H&R Block Budget Challenge in which all CIHS BFA students are currently participating.

Mr. CI contest

The CI Jr. ASB class hosted the 14 Annual Mr. CI contest! The winner was Nico San Diego who danced his way into the judges hearts! Runner up was Dajon Davis and 3rd Place was Angelo Lozano. Thank you to our faculty judges Mr. Corona, Mr. Ramos, Ms. Plascencia and Cheer coach Bobby Morales.

The Channel Islands HS (Sarah Mutuku and David Corona), MESA Advisors have done an amazing job with the MESA students, not just this year but every year and we wanted to share the Science & Technology MESA Day winners with you.

This year California MESA is having a Southern and Northern California Regionals competition instead of multiple smaller regions and we are part of the Southern California Region. Because of this shift we are only able to take 1st place teams to Regionals this year.  The Southern California MESA Regionals will take place at the Bourns Technology Center in Riverside, CA on Saturday, April 13.

Channel Islands HS has two teams advancing to Regionals. Congratulations to Cayel Lubid, Jazel Pasion, Jasmine Escobedo, Allessandra Gotico and Jesus Ramos!

Congratulations on all the hard work the students and advisors put in this past year and we will be in touch regarding logistics for the Regionals competitions soon.

Girls Track

This weekend in the Ventura Invitational, Maria Texis won the Soph Frosh 1600 with a personal best time of 5:44.  The 4 x 800 Soph Frosh team of Evelyn Castro, Maria Texis, Yahaira Arroyo, and Delaila Juarez came in 3rd and the Distance Medley Soph Frosh team of Evelyn Castro, Leslie Avalos, Olivia Martinez, and Maria Texis also came in 3rd.  Give the girls a big Congrats on their accomplishments!

Senior Ivan Romero set a new school record in the 200 yard free of 2:05.75. This crushes our previous record of 2:11.50, set by Adrian Rodriguez in 2011. If you see him, please congratulate him!
