CIHS Weekly Update 2.21.19

Business and Finance Academy

On Tuesday February 19, 2019, Ms. Powers brought her entire class of Channel Islands High School Business and Finance Academy (BFA) Seniors to the Pasadena Convention Center to participate in the LA Area Virtual Enterprise International Trade Show Competition.

There were 70 teams competing at the event (one of the largest in the nation), including 3 teams that flew in from New York to compete along with the BFA. As they announced the winners of the last and most prestigious award, our seniors learned that they not only received a Gold Level Award for placing as one of the top five teams in Salesmanship, but they came in third, thereby receiving a plaque for placing as one of the top 3 teams in this 70-team competition! Yay BFA!

BFA Juniors came along on the field trip to watch, listen and learn for next year. Ms. Ulrich accompanied the class to help supervise and cheer on the seniors, and a BFA Academy Advisory Board Member, Linda McCarthy of BNI-VC, also attended to learn more about the event and cheer the students on.

Counselor Corner

Boys State is a nationally recognized program that has been in place for over 80 years. Representative students (Delegates chosen from each school site) from all over California participate a summer week long leadership camp at either Sacramento State University.

The students chosen to attend the summer camp learn about inner workings, structure & responsibilities of local, state & national government, as well as about themselves.  This is sponsored by the American Legion, whom are proud military veterans, which want to give back to our youth & so much more.

Please help me congratulate the following boys who participated in the Boys State interview on 02/20/19:

  • Sage Amon (Chosen delegate to attend Boys State.)
  • Bryan Navarrete (Chosen alternate delegate to attend if a position opens up.)
  • Marcus Lagman
  • Angel Garcia
  • Cristopher Morales

Brassline

On Valentine’s Day, the CIHS Brassline braved the rain to play surprise songs around school. They serenaded students and staff with “In My Feelings” by Drake, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli, and “Build Me Up Buttercup” by the Foundations.
