HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE ISLANDS

PFSO KEEPS ON GIVING

Tis the season for giving, and our Islands PFSO did just that. They invited 3 families to receive gift baskets filled with different home essentials, as well as some CostCo gift cards.  Thank you to our PFSO.

AND THE GIVING CONTINUES

At the Islands one of our Assistant Principals, Shannon Houston Scott, and her family, sponsored one of our families who had 2 students attending CI.  They gifted a basket filled with gift cards, basketball items, clothes, shoes, tons of school supplies, blankets, pillows, and a laptop that was donated to the effort.  Thank you for the blessings.

LIVE STREAMING OF BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

The CIHS Broadcast Team of Andrea Berrellaza, Valerie Tovar, and Crystal Pacheco once again successfully live streamed the boys basketball home game from the gym Wednesday night with the support of Bob Allen and the KADY public access cable channel. Interested in live streaming a sport here at the Islands? Check out the CIHS Sports channel on YouTube.

Coffee with the Principal Meeting January 8, 2019

Parents were very interested in WASC information, purpose and process. Parents were invited to take part in the WASC visit in March. Parents shared suggestions, ideas, and their opinions on improving the social outcomes for students with the result of improving their chances for academic success. The conversation went to “How we as a school can bring in and engage our families in the school community?” Parents suggested personal invitations; student announcements on CI Live; flyers and social media to name a few. Principal Adams shared the calendar of assessments with parents and reminded them that the next few months will pass by quickly.

UPWARD BOUND AT THUMS ISLAND

UPWARD Bound students take a STEM journey to Thums Island on Friday, Jan. 4.  What a magnificent way to start the new year. The weather was glorious as the Upward Bound #UBCI and #CIDream students begin their STEM journey bright and early Friday morning from Channel Islands High School to Thums Island. The Islands are a set of four artificial islands in San Pedro Bay off the coast of Long Beach California. The islands are owned by a consortium of energy companies. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Esperanza Macedo, a Process and Water Quality Engineer for California Resources Corporation. What an inspiration she is for our students! Esmeralda emigrated from Mexico. Attended Cal Poly Pomona and graduated with a BA in Chemical Engineering. She then attended CSU Long Beach to receive her Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering Thank you Esmeralda, Christina and our angel, Ingelise Guy for making the trip possible for us.
