CIHS Weekly Update 6.1.18

CIHS represents hard at OHS Poetry Slam

On Thursday, two of our own, Angelina Leaños and Genesis Perez, represented The Islands at the annual OHS poetry slam. The ladies were 2 of 20 to be chosen to participate out of over 40 entries, and the only two from an outside school…

…and they killed it. Both ladies qualify for the final round of 8 competitors, which takes place this evening at the OHS PAC. There will be a taco truck at 5 with the final competition taking place at 6.

Props to all of the students who participated with their own original pieces, but especially our ladies, who brought down the house as guests in an audience full of unfamiliar faces.

If you are looking for an end of the year pick me up, consider rolling over with the fam to OHS and support these incredibly brave, thoughtful students. You will leave enlightened, uplifted, and proud.

Ventura County Government Workers Praise the CIHS BFA

On Tuesday May 22nd, Ms. Christina Reyes and Ms. Powers brought the Business and Finance Academy (BFA) from Channel Island High School (CIHS) to the Ventura County Government Center to attend their annual Public Works Day event.  Via lectures and interactive activities, students were introduced to the many career opportunities available in the Public Works Department. The BFA also received praise from one of the County representative who informed Ms. Powers that she was very impressed with the BFA students. This Public Works representative reported that the students were observed to be very polite, respectful, and well-dressed. The CIHS BFA students made the District, Channel Island High School, and the BFA proud!
