Ventura County’s Aspire 3 Business Plan Competitions for CIHS Business and Finance Academy
On Tuesday April 10, 2018, Channel Islands High School (CIHS) of the Oxnard Union High School District (OUHSD) hosted the first round of Ventura County’s Aspire 3 Business Plan Competitions for its 35 CIHS Business and Finance Academy (BFA) Juniors.
Judges for the event included Mr. Jeffrey Carranza and Mr. Soane Sevelo. Both are CIHS Business and Finance Academy Advisory Board Members and seasoned professionals in the financial services industry.
Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin was in Sacramento for the day, but she sent her Director of Communications, Andrew Munson to represent her at the event. Also present, were Aspire 3 Founder and CEO Sean Bhardwaj along with three of his associates, and OUHSD Director of Career Education Rebecca Chandler. CIHS School Principal, Dr. Ray Senesac had a prior commitment with another important project (PBIS) on Tuesday, so Associate Principal Randolph Ortiz made the preliminary introductions to begin the competition.
The top three winning teams from Tuesday’s competition will go on to the County-wide Finals for the Aspire 3 Business Plan Competition. In addition, at least one, and possibly as many as three additional teams will be selected as wild card winners who will also compete in the finals. The finals will be held on Saturday May 5, 2018, at California State University, Channel Islands (CSUCI). Alexa D’Angelo of the Ventura County Star is following the story, and plans to attend the final competition on May 5th.

The boys track and field team clinched an outright Pacific View League title in both JV and Varsity levels
Please congratulate the boys track and field team. The boys track and field team clinched an outright Pacific View League title in both JV and Varsity levels yesterday. By defeating Rio Mesa, both levels are 4-0 in league. It has been 40 years since our boys varsity have won a league championship in track. This is a hard working group that likes to run, hurdle, jump and throw for fun. And, they are great at it!
Please also congratulate these coaches: Emily Hall, Miguel Galindo, Orlyon Hughes, Josh Beck, Gabby Ramirez, Tierah Umu, Michelle Vaughner, La Patrick McGhee and Destin McGhee. We are very thankful to have a great group of coaches, in our sport it truly takes a village to get a league championship!
Also- a special thank you to Jose Hernandez, Debbie River, John Grennen and Sam Kochel for their support on our home (really away) meets this year.
Up next for the both girls and boys teams are the county championships and PVL Prelims and Finals at OHS on May 1 and May 5.
