Counseling Corner

On Thurs, March 8, 2018, CIHS, and UCSB presented the Spring Higher Ed Week Event as an opportunity for students to hear about college and university opportunities in and outside of the state. Students were invited to speak to the representatives from over 40 institutions of higher learning. It is always a wonderful opportunities for our Raider students and staff. Thanks again, to UCSB Early Academic Outreach for organizing this event!

This past Saturday, 28 of our MESA students attended MESA’s Science and Technology Day at UCSB. Students and parents took part in competitions and workshops pertaining to careers and studies in STEM fields as well as college readiness. The competitions at S&T Day serve as the Preliminary Level Competitions for MESA California. 4 of our students were able to secure ribbons for Creativity in Bridge Design. All students had fun. We are still waiting for the results of the load test for the Balsawood Bridges to know if we will have any students moving on to the Regional level this year. Hopes were high, fun was even higher. We even had the opportunity to see three of CI MESA’s  alumni, at or helping to run the events.

Mock Trial

On February 26th and 27th the CIHS Mock Trial faced tough competitors at the Ventura Count Superior Courthouse. After two nights of competition they came home with 3 individual award winners. Julia Jensen placed 3rd for her portrayal of an expert witness Dr. Devon Morrison, Samantha Radwich placed 2nd for her portrayal of an expert witness Dr. Tory Lee. Last but certainly not least Alejandra Orozco placed 1st in the county for her exceptional drawings. Alejandra will move on to State Finals March 16th and will not only represent CIHS, but Ventura County as she competes against all the winning artists from all the other counties. We are very proud of all our students. Special thanks to all our teachers and staff who have been so supportive during our first season and in particular to Mr. Roque (a former Mock Trial member), Dr. Senesac, Mr. Prum, Mr. Corona, Mr. Peter Rivas, Ms. Plascencia, Mr. Bankert for coming to see the team perform. CI Boys Volleyball is at it again, starting off 9-0 UNDEFEATED again for the 3rd year in a row!  On March 3rd , the Boys Volleyball team went to Pomona for the 12th annual Garey High School Tournament, and beat a ranked Roosevelt High School in the Finals  25-23, that’s right, they won the tourney for the THIRD time in a row!!!!!  This puts Boys volleyball at regular season 53-8 over the past three years!
On 3/5 they put the Buena Bulldogs in the doghouse, and on 3/6 they took the stingers out of the Scorpions, beating Camarillo for the second time in two seasons.
Team play is being executed by the boys, with an all-around effort with multiple standouts like Patrick Manansala, Edgar Delgado, Jim Corrasco, and Bon Agulto on the Offensive side being fed by setter Paolo Valerio.  Defensively, Sam Illengo, and Krisjahn Quilao are digging and serving machines!!
The Raiders will travel up the hill on 3/8 to tame the Lions of Oaks Christian.
Come out to the first league home game on 3/22 vs Oxnard!  It is going to be a big one!
