This past Saturday, 28 of our MESA students attended MESA’s Science and Technology Day at UCSB. Students and parents took part in competitions and workshops pertaining to careers and studies in STEM fields as well as college readiness. The competitions at S&T Day serve as the Preliminary Level Competitions for MESA California. 4 of our students were able to secure ribbons for Creativity in Bridge Design. All students had fun. We are still waiting for the results of the load test for the Balsawood Bridges to know if we will have any students moving on to the Regional level this year. Hopes were high, fun was even higher. We even had the opportunity to see three of CI MESA’s alumni, at or helping to run the events.
On February 26th and 27th the CIHS Mock Trial faced tough competitors at the Ventura Count Superior Courthouse. After two nights of competition they came home with 3 individual award winners. Julia Jensen placed 3rd for her portrayal of an expert witness Dr. Devon Morrison, Samantha Radwich placed 2nd for her portrayal of an expert witness Dr. Tory Lee. Last but certainly not least Alejandra Orozco placed 1st in the county for her exceptional drawings. Alejandra will move on to State Finals March 16th and will not only represent CIHS, but Ventura County as she competes against all the winning artists from all the other counties.
