Business and Finance Academy participate in the Virtual Enterprise International Trade Show Competition
Ms. Eileen Powers’ 35 Channel Islands High School (CIHS) Business and Finance Academy (BFA) Seniors all participated in the Virtual Enterprise International (VEI) Trade Show Competition held at the Pasadena Convention Center on Tuesday February 13, 2018. Her students faced 78 formidable contenders, including 5 teams whose members flew in from NYC/NY State to compete in Pasadena as well. Despite the strong competition, the CIHS BFA Seniors managed to bring home Silver Level Certificates in not one, but two categories: Exhibition Booth Design, and Impact Marketing! The students winning Certificates will be scanned and made available to them for use in their professional portfolios as they apply for college and career jobs.
Special thanks to Mr. Shane Rogers for shaping a surfboard out of a plywood sheet for the students’ second and winning “Impact Marketing” sign. Thanks also to BFA Advisory Board Partner Members Ms. Linda McCarthy and Mr. Soane Sevelo for taking time out of their busy schedules to come help students prepare for this competition in class. Further thanks go out to Mr. Mark Raquedan and Ms. Valarie Ulrich for making themselves available to help critique students on their sales pitches just prior to the event.
Pics include a photo of BFA Senior/Artist, Sebastian Aguilar (L), with classmate Richie Rivera at his side (R), standing next to Sebastian’s work. Sebastian’s wonderful artwork, coupled with all of his classmates’ ideas, input and branding focus, helped bring in the Impact Marketing Silver Level Certificate; a new one for the BFA.
On February 12, 2018 the CIHS Mock Trial team made their way over to the Santa Barbara County Courthouse to scrimmage against Laguna Blanca High School and they did very well. We are very grateful to the courthouse administration for allowing us to use their facilities and to Laguna Blanca for hosting us. Our team is gearing up for our big county competition coming up February 26th and 27th at the Superior Courthouse on Victoria Ave. We hope to see you there.
