Academic Decathlon 

Our student participation was an all-time high for CI as we had three teams with  total of 28 students competing, the most for any school this year.  If you see any of these students, please congratulate them on their hard work.

Our overall team score improved by an amazing 10,000 points over last year.  All 3 teams scored higher than last year.  Our A team jumped up the ranking by 10 slots, ranking a very respectable 21 out of 46 teams.  We came home with well earned 11 medals, another high water mark for CI, thanks to the academic excellence of these students:

  • Paulina L.:  2nd place in the Essay Category for Scholastic White Division
  • Savannah G.: 2nd place in Essay, Speech AND Interview Categories for Varsity Blue Division
  • Jose T.: 1st place in Math for Varsity Blue Division (highest math score in BOTH Varsity White and Blue Divisions!!!!)
  • Edwin C.: 3rd place in Math for Varsity White Division
  • Rommel B.: 2nd in Econ for Varsity Blue Division
  • Dhruvi D.: 3rd place in Econ for Scholastic White Division
  • Kairo H.: 2nd place in Science for Honors White Division
  • Kalani R.: 3rd place in Social Science for Scholastic Blue Division
  • John R. C.: 3rd place in Social Science for Honors Blue Division

Our highest scores by team were Jasmine E. on A team, John C. on B team and Kalani R. on  C team

Financial Aid workshop 

On Tuesday, February 6th, Channel Islands High School held one of many Financial Aid workshops. Griselda Sanchez (UCSB, EAOP College Site Coordinator), Counselor Shirley Fernandez, and experts from Moorpark College were available to answer questions and assist with the FAFSA  process.

Parent Institute for Quality Education 

On Thursday, February 8th CIHS parents attended the first PIQUE (Parent Institute for Quality Education) meeting

Miss CI 2018 

Thursday, February 8th Channel Islands held its annual Ms. CI competition. Over 10 students from all grade levels competed against each other for the title. Each contestant was graded on their performance of their special talent and answers to questions from judges. Congratulations to Deanna Lara for being voted Miss CI 2018.

Counseling Corner 

Counselors began visiting the Junior Highs this week and presented to all incoming 9th grade students. They covered everything from graduation requirements and A-G requirements to everything that Channel Islands has to offer. They also helped all students select courses for their first year as Raiders. During these visits, counselors provided all incoming 8th graders with enrollments packets and invited all 8th graders to our Parent Nights which will take place on February 21st and February 28th which is when enrollment packets are to be turned in.
