CIHS hosts Filipino American History Month celebration

October is Filipino American History Month! The Filipino American Council of Ventura County held their celebration at Channel Islands High School. The purpose of the gathering is to honor and celebrate Filipino-American history and culture. Festivities began with a parade followed by a fiesta at the CIHS campus. Assistant Principal, Marianne Ramos gave the welcoming address and Oxnard Mayor, Tim Flynn spoke at the event. Two individuals who worked tirelessly to make this event so successful are Grace Tuazon and Danny Victorio, both OUHSD employees.

Business Finance Academy

On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, the Channel Islands High School Business and Finance Academy showed up in great numbers once again to the annual Entrees to Employment Business Networking Dinner event sponsored by VC Innovates with the Ventura County Department of Education. There were 21 CIHS (BFA) students and 2 teachers present for the event. The event was held at California Lutheran University this year, as it was two years ago. Students were provided an outstanding opportunity to learn how to network, practice networking in real time, and connect with professionals who work in their particular areas of interest.

Athletics

Last Saturday, October 21st, CI Boys and Girls JV  Cross Country competed in the LA Invitational.  With over 30 schools competing CI Frosh/Soph Team placed 2nd led by Freshmen Pedro Calderon who won the whole race.  JV Boys  placed 2nd led by Donaldo Martinez who also came in first place in the JV race.  Girls were led by Lizbet Alvarez who finished a strong 3rd overall in the JV girls race.  This Friday all of cross country will be at Lake Casitas for the County Championship race.  One of the favorites to win the individual title is senior Ricardo Torres who placed 3rd last year.  Our varsity boys should finish among the top 5 teams out of all Ventura County. League Finals will be November 2nd at College Park next door. Come out, your support is appreciated.
