College Readiness Academy

College Site Coordinator Griselda Sanchez from the Early Academic Outreach Program offered a two week College Readiness Academy for incoming seniors. The purpose of the academy was to help students prepare for the application and matriculation process to higher education. Students evaluated their transcript for A-G completion and calculated their UC/CSU GPA to help them understand what higher education system they were eligible to apply. In addition students had to research their top college choices, developed their first draft of their personal statements that are part of the UC and private colleges. Also, students were able create the different college site accounts and create their personal FSA ID to apply for financial aid. In addition to working on the college application, students had the opportunity to learn about financial literacy, the difference from high school to college, how to find support at the universities by learning about different student services provided for academic, emotional and social support. Special Thanks to Britt Ortiz, Director of EAOP, for being our motivational speaker and Mocha Yates from Montecito Bank and Trust for the wonderful workshop on financial literacy.
